The Ministry Gender, Labour and Social Development Orients DCDOs and PSWOs on Culture and Family Function

By Abraham Ekwaru

The Ministry Gender, Labour and Social Development has held a day orientation meeting for DCDOs and PSWOs on Culture and Family Function of Eastern region (Soroti, Kapchorwa, Kween, Bukwo, Amuria, Kalaki, Amudat and Napak, at Soroti district headquarters, conference room.

Background.

The Department of Culture and Family Affairs was established in 2010 following Government restructuring of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

It derives its mandate from the Article 246 of the 1995 Constitution as amended 2005. In line with Local Government Act 2017, the Culture and Family Function are decentralized functions in which District Local Governments play an important role.

Findings from the support supervision and monitoring visits conducted both in the old and newly created districts reveals that there are a number of challenges in fulfilling the culture and family function at those levels due to lack the orientation on the roles and responsibilities of the districts on Planing and implementing the culture and family function.

To bridge the above gap, the today's one day training is to orient the DCDOs and PSWO on the implementation of culture and family function in their respective administrative units. The training is facilitated by the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development.

Soroti District is represented by the DCDO, madam Margaret Emuria Acaya and Senior Community Development Officer in charge Gender, Daisy Ayigi.
