Soroti District Commences Senior Citizens’ Grant Payments and Enrolment of New Beneficiaries

Soroti, August 31, 2026 — Soroti District Local Government has commenced the payment of the Senior Citizens Grant, alongside the verification and enrolment of new beneficiaries across the district.

The exercise, which started today, is being implemented across the district under the coordination of the Community Based Services Department and is aimed at ensuring that eligible older persons receive the financial support provided under the government programme.

Each eligible beneficiary is receiving UGX 150,000, covering payments for the fourth quarter of the Financial Year 2025/2026 and the first quarter of FY 2026/2027.

According to the district, the exercise is not limited to payment of existing beneficiaries. It also includes the verification, registration and enrolment of new beneficiaries who qualify for the grant.

The verification component is intended to establish the eligibility of new applicants and ensure that the grant reaches the intended beneficiaries. District officials are also expected to verify beneficiary information as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and minimise errors in the payment process.

The Senior Citizens Grant is one of the government interventions intended to provide social protection support to older persons, particularly those who may have limited sources of income and face challenges meeting their basic needs.

The district has urged beneficiaries and applicants to cooperate with officials conducting the exercise by providing the required information and participating in the verification process.

The Community Based Services Department is overseeing the exercise, with district officials expected to monitor the process across the different areas to ensure that payments and enrolment are conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.

The commencement of the exercise is expected to provide financial relief to hundreds of senior citizens in the district while also bringing new eligible beneficiaries into the social protection programme.
